Missions to Help Stray Animals Around the World
Our dedication knows no borders
Animal suffering can occur anywhere in the world, and while FOUR PAWS has focus countries in Eastern Europe (Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Moldova) and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, India), where our aim is to implement sustainable and humane dog/cat population management programs, we also support communities who need urgent help in dealing with their stray animal population. This assistance is given through short-term projects and enables us to bring a positive impact to other countries.
Kosovo, 2023
FOUR PAWS alongside local partner Animal Rights Foundation, has taken the first steps in setting up proactive measures to reshape the fate of strays, in response to the country’s newly launched national strategy to control their ever-growing stray dog population.
Greece, 2020
Despite the perils of operating within a global pandemic, November 2020 saw the launch of a new collaboration for stray cats in Paros, Greece, between FOUR PAWS, Greek Animal Welfare Foundation (GAWF) and three local animal welfare organizations.
Myanmar, 2018-2019
In 2018 to 2019, FOUR PAWS carried out a mass vaccination program in Myanmar, in which we vaccinated almost 300,000 dogs and cats against the viral disease rabies.
Australia, 2018
In Aboriginal communities across Australia, there is little to no vet care available. In 2018, FOUR PAWS provided desperately needed veterinary care in the indigenous community of Kintore for several animals.
South Africa, 2017-present
Since 2017, FOUR PAWS has carried out regular sterilization and vaccination projects in poor communities in South Africa. Since 2021, we work with our local partner PDSA (People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals) in carrying out these projects.
Switzerland, 2016-2019
Unneutered farm cats are the major source of the stray cat population in Switzerland. FOUR PAWS reached out to farmers and cat owners in rural areas and helped them to humanely and sustainably reduce the number of cats through sterilization projects.
Austria, 2013-2018
With large stray cat populations especially in rural areas, and with low enforcement regarding the law that requires sterilization of free-roaming cats, FOUR PAWS carried out a yearly stray cat sterilization and vaccination project to help address the situation.
Sudan, 2012-2013
In partnership with UNAMID, FOUR PAWS has been treating and sterilizing dogs in military camps in the Darfur area, Sudan. This project was the first of its kind in the history of UN missions.
Germany, 2011-2019
As Germany has a large population of stray cats while having little to no awareness of the issue, nor any responsibility towards the animals from a political perspective, FOUR PAWS carried out several stray cat sterilization and vaccination projects to try to address the issue.
Jordan, 2010-2017
Together with our local partner, Princess Alia Foundation, FOUR PAWS has conducted regular stray animal care sterilization projects in Jordan.
Baltic & Balkan countries, 2009-2015
FOUR PAWS also conducted multiple sterilization and vaccination projects in other Baltic and Balkan countries over the years, including Lithuania, Latvia, Albania and Croatia, as well as in Slovakia (Central Europe).
